TRAPPED IN THE SMOKING HABIT?
Smoking is essentially a habit as oppose to a physical
addiction. And did you know that all traces of nicotine
have left the body within 48 hours after stopping?
This
means that any remaining craving is due to psychological
perception of the benefits that smoking brings and a
pattern of behaviour that has formed around smoking, for
instance, first thing in the morning, after a meal, on
the phone, feeling bored or stressed.
Because we are all fantastic learners, the brain learns
very quickly and the more you do something, the more
ingrained the behaviour becomes, meaning that it feels
more natural to smoke at certain times than to refrain.
Although you may really want to give up smoking, it can
be extremely difficult to break free from that pattern
of behaviour and to alter some of the beliefs which
smoking thrives on. One of the ways that cigarettes are
able to exert their control over you is down to the fear
that these beliefs instil.
This is because they are able to work at an emotional
level meaning that the rational thinking brain (that
knows all the harmful effects and serious health
problems that smoking can bring), doesn’t get chance to
have a look in.

The majority of smokers thinking about stopping can,
unfortunately, let their imagination run riot and find
themselves worrying about things like ‘what will I do
when I’m feeling stressed’, how will I enjoy a drink
without a cigarette’ and ‘how will I cope will the
terrible withdrawal symptoms’.
Well, the good news is that hypnotherapy recognises the
incredible power of our imagination and is therefore
able to use it to your advantage by creating new beliefs
and expectations around stopping smoking and creating
new patterns of behaviour, making stopping smoking a
positive experience.
The amount of sessions that are required vary, according
to how many cigarettes a person is smoking and whether
they prefer to stop in one session or over an extended
period of time. Either way, a stop smoking hypnosis CD
is included in the fee to use at home to support the
work done during the therapy session(s).
