IS A PHOBIA RULING YOUR LIFE?
Well, the good news is that phobias are surprisingly
easy and painless to cure!
People can quite easily develop a phobia about
absolutely anything, from flying, heights, birds,
insects to buttons or even the colour yellow! Phobias
can appear ridiculous, absurd or even funny, however for
the person suffering from a phobia the intense terror
can be disabling and very distressing.
There are two types of phobia, a specific phobia is when
a person experiences an intense fear (or panic attack)
triggered by a particular object or situation. A
non-specific phobia such as agoraphobia (fear of open
spaces) is more generalised and can come about either
through a ‘spreading out’ of panic attacks or through a
person’s levels of general anxiety becoming so high that
panic is triggered easily whenever they are feeling a
little stressed.

Phobias happen because in our cave man ‘primitive’ days,
when we came into contact with something dangerous such
as a predator, the mind/body would create the optimum
state for survival (a panic attack), otherwise known as
the fight or flight response. This type of learning is
not the rational type and takes place at an emotional
level, bypassing the ‘thinking brain’.
So in the past, an immediate phobic response to a
predatory animal would have been extremely useful. We
therefore, evolved the ability to become ‘phobic’.
However, in today’s complex environment, this learning
mechanism often works in an inappropriate way.
To become ‘phobic’, all you need is a state of high
anxiety paired with an object or situation. Phobias can
also be generated through a misuse of the imagination,
as is often the case with children, or by seeing a
‘phobic’ parent.
The good news is that phobias are surprisingly easy and
painless to cure by using a simple yet powerful
technique called the ‘Rewind Technique’. This process is
very relaxing and changes the association that a person
has with the phobic stimulus. When treating specific
phobias, just one session is often needed to cure the
phobia for good!
